VDMA: Mechanical Engineering Industry Association

Interview

Since 2016 digital expert Dr. Hermann Buitkamp has been working for VDMA in the Agricultural Machinery Association, one of the largest specialist associations with 180 member companies and fifteen employees.

Approx. 95 percent of all German agricultural machinery companies (e.g. Claas, Deutz, Lemken, Agco / Fendt etc.) are members of VDMA. Together with the DLG, VDMA organizes the Agritechnica, the world's leading trade fair for agricultural machinery, every year.

In order to promote the digitalization of agriculture in Germany, VDMA has defined seven fields of action that are meant to improve the competitiveness of German agriculture, and proposed them to the Federal Minister of Agriculture.
The BMEL included some of these proposals in their brochure "Digital Policy Agriculture - Future Programme: Seizing Opportunities - Minimizing Risks".

In order to get to know the prospects of businesses better, VDMA is in regular contact with innovative agricultural businesses.
The goal of VDMA is a fruitful win-win situation that everyone involved profits from: the farmers who experience more social acceptance; society that recognizes that agribusiness takes animal welfare, resource and climate protection seriously; and last but not least the agricultural engineering industry, which can make full use of its innovation potential.
